Congressional Candidacy Announcement and Press Conference for Dr. Lindy Scott of Wheaton College, Democrat in the 6th District

All Press and community members are invited to gather at Wheaton’s Memorial Park bandshell on Friday, August 26th, 2005, for the official announcement of Wheaton College Professor Lindy Scott’s United States Congressional candidacy for the 6th District of Illinois. This historic moment is the beginning of Dr. Scott’s campaign to re-shape the political landscape of American politics at both the local and national levels.

Scott is running as an evangelical Democrat whose desire is “to serve everyone in the 6th District.” Scott stands for fiscal and moral responsibility while approaching social issues through seeking how we can best love and care for our neighbor.

While offering a fresh perspective on the political scene, Scott has also been addressing the issues for many years in his writing and as a professor and pastor in the United States and Latin America. For the past 10 years, Scott has worked as Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies at Wheaton College and is also currently serving as Director of the Center for Applied Christian Ethics. Additionally, Dr. Scott volunteers and serves on the executive board of the Lydia Ministry which serves neglected children in Chicagoland and empowers women and men to strengthen their families.

Lindy Scott is known as a man of integrity and is running a campaign based on moral principle and conviction. Scott’s grassroots campaign is seeking to mobilize supporters through endorsements on his website which already total 125 prior to his official announcement of candidacy. A Message from Lindy:

Why do I want to serve you in congress? My motivation is summed up in an illustration used by Saint Augustine. “Hope had two beautiful children, Anger and Courage: Anger at the way things are and Courage to make them better.”

Our country is not living up to our ideals. While tax cuts benefit the very rich, many of our neighbors have lost their jobs, their educational opportunities, their healthcare and their dreams. Our foreign policy mistakes have caused needless death and suffering for millions. Let us have the courage and the determination to do better. Join me in making our highest aspirations become reality. We need a new voice to represent the 6th District in Washington, DC.

If you elect me to be your next Congressman, I will put my thirty-five years of experience, my integrity, my faith, and my passion for fairness at your service. My goal as your public servant is quite simple: to seek the well being of all of our neighbors. I will strengthen the social fabric of our communities by implementing policies that promote and cherish life for everyone, a “seamless garment” that covers all aspects of our society.

· Well funded education that meets the needs of our children
· Efficient healthcare available for all Americans
· A strengthened Social Security Program: both now and for the future
· Responsible foreign policy based upon human rights and mutual respect
· Wise and careful stewardship of our environment
· Fiscal responsibility: right priorities that do not put our children in debt
