Coalition of Interfaith and Civic Leaders Expressed Outrage at Beck's Attempt to Usurp Martin Luther King Jr.'s Civil Rights Legacy and Debuted Brave New Foundation's "Glenn Beck Is Not Martin Luther King Jr." Short

"The hatred spewed by Glenn Beck reveals the deep wound of racism that is a contradiction to the message of love and equality conveyed by Dr. King,"- Rev. Eric Lee, SCLC Greater Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA - Religious leaders today unveiled "Glenn Beck Is No Martin Luther King, Jr." a new online short from Brave New Foundation to express outrage over Glenn Beck's 'Restore Honor' rally and his attempt to usurp the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King's 'I Have A Dream Speech' by holding the event on the anniversary of King's landmark speech. The speakers at the event, at Hamilton United Methodist Church, included Brave New Foundation's Executive Director, Jim Miller; Reverend Eric Lee, of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC); Reverend William D. Smart of Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE); Rabbi Leonard Beerman of Temple Leo Baeck, and Rabbi Steven B. Jacobs, Founder, Progressive Faith Foundation.

"The hatred spewed by Glenn Beck reveals the deep wound of racism that is a contradiction to the message of love and equality conveyed by Dr. King," said Reverend Lee.

A number of Coalition Partners, including Celebrate the Dream, Campaign for America's Future, True Majority, Progress Now and AlterNet also expressed their solidarity, joining the participants in declaring Beck's actions an outrage.

"I marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. against the war in Vietnam. If there is anyone in the world who wanted to overcome differences and bitter conflicts it was Dr. King," said Rabbi Jacobs.

Joining us in this effort are our friends at Alternet, Credo, Celebrate the Dream, Campaign for America's Future, Media Matters for America, True Majority, PowerPAC and Progress Now.

"He brought understanding and reconciliation and something we don't have evidence of today, cooperation. Martin's dream rejected the hateful rhetoric of Glenn Beck and others who seek to divide and conquer." # # #
