Naperville Democrats Vote to Support 204 Education Referendum
Group joins Naperville and Aurora Chambers of Commerce, More than a Dozen PTAs in support of critical bond measure
February 27, 2006: After listening to presentations from groups in favor of and opposed to the upcoming referendum, members of the Naperville Township Democratic Organization voted overwhelmingly Thursday night to support the new high school bond referendum in Indian Prairie School District 204.
"Voters in 204 have a critical choice before us on March 21," said Naperville Democrats chair Rick Klau. "Do we risk having the two largest high schools in the state, or do we plan responsibly for anticipated growth throughout the district? Passing the referendum will ensure that we can look forward to a future in which Naperville's students will have the space they need to learn in the best educational environment."
The referendum calls for the construction of a third high school and addition of a seventh middle school in Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204, which covers parts of Naperville, Aurora and Bolingbrook.
"The referendum will ensure that the district can accommodate our community's growth, while remaining fiscally responsible to our district's taxpayers," said Liz D'Addario, Co-Chair of 204 The Kids, a community group founded to ensure passage of the referendum measure. "Our schools are already near capacity, and this year's kindergarten class is the largest in 204's history. Failure to pass this referendum would jeopardize the opportunities that we want for our children in the form of the best educational experience possible."
Voters in School District 204 will vote on the referendum on March 21.
